The problems with conventional shorthand, particularly Gregg, is that it takes a long time to learn, and unless you use it daily, you can forget the special symbols. Pitman is a bit easier, as many of the symbols are based on actual words, but it still requires a learning curve and practice.

Speedwriting is based on the way words sound. This phonetic approach makes it the most accurate to decipher, which is especially important for journalists who need to capture quotations with complete accuracy.
